Being a Part of Your Union…Finding the Way
As we get started with the spring of 2010, we anticipate a busy year in 2010. We have already begun preparing for the Annual Unity Events this year. Given the sluggish economy/recession that we have been in over the past several years, these events are a good way to get more involved with your Union and at the same time, a cost savings to you and your family to share a good time together.
Whether it’s the Union Labor Day Picnic, Sporting Event, or the Annual Christmas Dinner, we encourage you to find a way to become more of “being an active member in your Union”.
Local 439 has recently negotiated a three year contract with Leprino Foods; these negotiations were not easy due to the fact that Leprino Foods was persistent on putting the members into a lower cost healthcare plan. Even though the company put the cost savings into the wages, for some it was a tough move. In the end, our members carefully weighed out their options, and voted to ratify the final proposal.
We are currently in negotiations with CEMEX (formally American Transit Mix), and we are preparing for negotiations with the City of Tracy, Unified Western Grocers, Cal Tank Lines, Western Building Supplies, Village Dental, Angelica Textile, Granite Construction, Tiecart Construction, Macy’s, Loomis, Sara-Lee, and University of the Pacific.
To put it bluntly, we have our work cut out for us, but through all of this we will still be visible in the workplaces, returning calls, and dealing with the day to day grievances and issues. At Local 439 we all have a passion for what we do, and the members that we serve, if it were not so, we wouldn’t be able to continue the regiment of the daily grind, we look at this work as a vocation rather than a job, it’s a way of life.
The added activities are simply to find a way to enjoy with our members extra curricular activities with you and your families….we look forward to seeing you there this year!
